Clare Suet Ching Chan is an Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Department of Music of the Faculty of Human Ecology at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Prior to this she taught at  the Music Department of Faculty of Music and Performing Arts in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (2002-2022) and held appointments as the Deputy Dean (Research and Graduate Studies)(2011-2017) and Chief Editor (2015-2021) of the Malaysian Journal of Music. Clare graduated with a PhD in Music (Ethnomusicology) from the University of Hawai`i at Manoa (2010). She is a recipient of the  Fulbright  (2005-2007), Asia–Pacific Graduate Fellowship in Ethnomusicology (2005-2007), and East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship (2008-2010).
